SPIDERS
What we have is a simple form of interpreting technology called the “Spider”.
It’s a small box you plug a microphone into, with sockets for headphones to take the interpreting to the public via cables, making it look like a big, lanky spider. Spiders are a small-scale device, only really suitable for smaller meetings.
Spiders were developed and are produced as an open-source project by COATI collective from Spain, and you can order them from them and learn how to assemble them online or ask for COATI’s assistance, like we did.
Compared to other interpretation devices, such as FM radio or other wireless transmitters, Spiders are cheap and very easy to operate.
